In the West, when anyone rolls a spliff, it’s said to that the roller has ‘Roller’s Rights’. And that’s where I made the mistake.
For years I had that mentality; ‘I did that, that’s mine, everything’s mine’. But one day when I was visiting India, I really felt like getting high that day. I asked the first rickshaw driver I saw, and with his wide toothless grin, he directed me into the rickshaw and off we bobbed down the broken road. Landing at his chill spot, I was confronted with a group of more, toothless grins.
He rolled a spliff and handed it to someone else to spark. And this happened several times, before it was given to me first, and then I asked why the roller wasn’t sparking them. He replied “In India, we give it to others first, otherwise only the rich will have any”.
The West doesn’t have all the answers
